Broughton and District Bowling Club is situated in the Broughton village just behind the school in the Upper Tweed area of the Scottish Borders Region. The objects of the club shall be to provide and equip a six-rink bowling green and generally create an interest and enjoyment by playing the sport of green bowls.The green is open for anyone to use on a casual basis with loan equipment and instruction available without having to commit to becoming a member. The season starts late April until late September. Club nights are Monday and Thursdays evenings at 7pm and most Wednesday afternoons at 2pm. Our club is managed by a committee of 11 members elected annually just after the season closes. We are members of Bowls Scotland), Peeblesshire County Bowling Association, Tweeddale Sports Council and The Bridge. The Club also takes part in the Peeblesshire County League along with Peebles, St Ronans,Walkerburn and West Linton. 2009 saw us take part in the Clyde/Lyne league for first time in many years which includes teams from Biggar,Carnwath,Carstairs,Thankerton and West Linton. We have various competitions for club members to take part in. Open competitions are also held during the season that see competitors coming from:- Carwath ,Carstairs, Biggar ,Balerno, Forth, Wishaw, WestLinton, Peebles, Walkerburn, Innerleithen, Penicuik, Eddleston, Manor, Tweedsmuir, Thankerton, Lanark, North Middleton, Elsrickle, Dolphinton, Netherurd, Dumfries and Moffat.

Saturday 24th September was the end of a very successful outdoor bowling season at Broughton. Members of the club took part in the Annual Tournament for the Tom Prentice Trophy. This years winners were Derek Scott and Grace Hogg. It was nice to see Tom Prentice taking part in this tournament and he along with Bill Nicholson reached the final but did not manage to beat Derek and Grace.

 

We are pleased to receive £1161 from the Big lottery 2014 Communties grant fund. With this grant the club will offer lawn bowling coaching to people wishing to try the sport. This grant will fund four sets of junior bowls, four sets of adult bowls, four pairs of flip flop over shoes (juniors), four pairs of flip flop over shoes (adults), six rink score boards and eight 4-bowl carriers.
